U.K. stocks higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 1.35%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Industrial Metals & Mining and General Industrial sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.35% to hit a new all time high.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Entain PLC (LON:ENT), which rose 6.29% or 39.60 points to trade at 669.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) added 5.50% or 97.00 points to end at 1,862.00 and Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) was up 4.98% or 345.00 points to 7,270.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD), which fell 2.66% or 2.32 points to trade at 85.04 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.13% or 14.50 points to end at 666.00 and Frasers Group PLC (LON:FRAS) was down 1.25% or 7.50 points to 593.50.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1167 to 632 and 611 ended unchanged.

Shares in JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD) fell to 3-years lows; losing 2.66% or 2.32 to 85.04. Shares in Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) rose to all time highs; gaining 5.50% or 97.00 to 1,862.00.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.15% or 4.21 to $2,755.11 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.24% or 0.19 to hit $77.66 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.18% or 0.15 to trade at $81.14 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.56% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.38% to 0.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 109.14.
