Cuba releases jailed dissident, rights activist Jose Daniel Ferrer

HAVANA (Reuters) – Cuban dissident Jose Daniel Ferrer told Reuters on Thursday he had been released from jail and was at home, part of a Cuban government plan negotiated with the Vatican to release upwards of 500 prisoners from the island`s prisons.

The Cuban government began releasing prisoners on Wednesday shortly after talks with the Catholic Church and an announcement by the Biden administration that the U.S. would relax sanctions on the communist-run nation.
