U.K. stocks higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 1.19%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Construction & Materials and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.19%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Vistry Group PLC (LON:VTYV), which rose 15.74% or 81.00 points to trade at 595.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) added 6.53% or 3.50 points to end at 57.12 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 6.50% or 17.15 points to 280.95 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which fell 0.97% or 24.00 points to trade at 2,448.00 at the close. Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RKT) declined 0.86% or 42.00 points to end at 4,821.00 and Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) was down 0.58% or 15.00 points to 2,580.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1360 to 476 and 565 ended unchanged.

Shares in Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 6.50% or 17.15 to 280.95.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.26% or 33.71 to $2,716.01 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.37% or 1.81 to hit $78.18 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.91% or 1.53 to trade at $81.45 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.18% to 0.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 108.99.
