U.K. stocks lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.32%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Mining and Aerospace & Defense sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.32%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which rose 1.20% or 35.00 points to trade at 2,945.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Pershing Square Holdings Ltd (LON:PSHP) added 1.06% or 40.00 points to end at 3,804.00 and Schroders PLC (LON:SDR) was up 1.02% or 3.20 points to 316.60 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which fell 2.30% or 14.50 points to trade at 616.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 1.76% or 28.50 points to end at 1,590.50 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was down 1.32% or 7.60 points to 570.40.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 948 to 737 and 739 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.59% or 15.41 to $2,616.49 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.27% or 0.90 to hit $71.50 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.91% or 0.67 to trade at $74.46 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.38% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.07% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 108.01.
