Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 1.16%

Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Glass, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.16%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TYO:7211), which rose 5.25% or 24.50 points to trade at 491.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) added 4.54% or 391.00 points to end at 9,000.00 and IHI Corp. (TYO:7013) was up 4.34% or 362.00 points to 8,709.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Astellas Pharma Inc. (TYO:4503), which fell 1.52% or 23.50 points to trade at 1,519.00 at the close. Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755) declined 1.45% or 13.30 points to end at 906.50 and Bandai Namco Holdings Inc (TYO:7832) was down 1.40% or 53.00 points to 3,720.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2150 to 1485 and 258 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.01% to 23.18.

Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.45% or 0.31 to $69.77 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.37% or 0.27 to hit $72.83 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.02% or 0.56 to trade at $2,644.54 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.15% to 156.64, while EUR/JPY rose 0.19% to 163.43.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 107.56.
