U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.11%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecoms, Consumer Services and Oil & Gas sectors led shares higher while losses in the Technology, Healthcare and Utilities sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.11%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.02%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.23%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), which rose 2.48% or 5.19 points to trade at 214.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) added 2.19% or 3.40 points to end at 158.69 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) was up 1.83% or 0.74 points to 41.14 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which fell 3.58% or 5.20 points to trade at 139.97 at the close. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) declined 1.51% or 5.94 points to end at 387.07 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) was down 1.43% or 8.80 points to 605.87.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which rose 5.42% to 9.72, Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which was up 5.24% to settle at 108.19 and West Pharmaceutical Services Inc (NYSE:WST) which gained 4.98% to close at 344.00.

The worst performers were Monolithic Power Systems Inc (NASDAQ:MPWR) which was down 6.62% to 601.47 in late trade, Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which lost 6.31% to settle at 20.33 and Amentum Holdings LLC (NYSE:AMTM) which was down 5.15% to 29.63 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Microvast Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MVST) which rose 340.01% to 0.80, Quantum Computing Inc (NASDAQ:QUBT) which was up 92.75% to settle at 2.66 and Pulmatrix Inc (NASDAQ:PULM) which gained 73.66% to close at 3.56.

The worst performers were Syros Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SYRS) which was down 86.85% to 0.36 in late trade, GlucoTrack Inc (NASDAQ:GCTK) which lost 76.92% to settle at 0.36 and Wag! Group Co (NASDAQ:PET) which was down 67.98% to 0.21 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1664 to 1139 and 85 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2228 fell and 1058 advanced, while 115 ended unchanged.

Shares in Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) fell to 52-week lows; down 6.31% or 1.37 to 20.33. Shares in Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) rose to all time highs; rising 2.48% or 5.19 to 214.10. Shares in Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) fell to 52-week lows; down 3.58% or 5.20 to 139.97. Shares in Syros Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SYRS) fell to all time lows; falling 86.85% or 2.37 to 0.36. Shares in Quantum Computing Inc (NASDAQ:QUBT) rose to 52-week highs; up 92.75% or 1.28 to 2.66. Shares in GlucoTrack Inc (NASDAQ:GCTK) fell to all time lows; down 76.92% or 1.20 to 0.36. Shares in Pulmatrix Inc (NASDAQ:PULM) rose to 52-week highs; rising 73.66% or 1.51 to 3.56. Shares in Wag! Group Co (NASDAQ:PET) fell to all time lows; down 67.98% or 0.45 to 0.21.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.69% to 14.02 a new 3-months low.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.97% or 25.20 to $2,581.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.04% or 0.03 to hit $68.09 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.13% or 0.09 to trade at $71.98 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.56% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.59% to 155.51.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 106.40.
